Buying your tap gear.

In Singapore, there are two main carriers for tap dance shoes: Sonata Dancewear & Costume Connection. Prices for tap shoes can range from $30 to $300++ depending on the material and quality of the shoes. Beginners can always opt to buy a cheap pair from Sonata before committing fully into a pair of classic K's.

Currently there are no known tap board sellers in Singapore. However, if you would like to improvise with some wooden boards, you could check out our local art stores for pieces of wood.

Sonata Dancewear.

Sonata provides dancewear that are locally produced, so by purchasing from them, you are supporting a fellow Singaporean with a love for dance!

They import tap shoe models from Capezio, and they carry the models Tapster and Mary Janes. The shoes are plastic based, so they're ideal for beginner tap dancers.

Costume Connection.

Costume Connection is a dancewear shop based in Bugis. They carry Sansha models that are priced from the $60-$80 range. These shoes are ideal for intermediate dancers, especially the split soled T-splits, or anyone who wants to show off their toe stands.

Art Friend.

Art Friend provides extensive supplies for all forms of visual arts. If you're looking to DIY a tap board, look no further! They carry a whole range of wood, from plywood, to something more solid, so your own custom tap board's price is really up to you depending on the size and make.

Protip: leave some negative space between the wood and the floor, so you may want to get some stickies to elevate the wooden board when you tap. This allows amplification, cushioning, and you'll sound better too.
